C.UBI relies on 4 components which are interlinked and reinforce each other. Each of these components can be seen as separate fields in themselves, and a wide array of literature and research is available for each single one. You can explore these by clicking on "Read more" next to each component.

The principle of the commons helps put the natural resources necessary for human life into public hands (air, water, earth). The model of the circular economy makes it possible for those resources to be protected and shared among people, enabled by distributed technologies. Universal basic income distributes wealth among people, empowering individuals across all classes to organise economically and socially in ways that are in harmony with the larger environmental ecosystem, reinforcing the components mentioned above.

The Commons

The commons is the cultural and natural resources accessible to all members of a society, including natural materials such as air, water, and a habitable earth. These resources are held in common, not owned privately (International Journal of the Commons).

The Circular Economy

The circular economy is an alternative model for economic, industrial and social organisation aiming to minimise resource input and maximise resource value. It is actively countering the major loss of value and increased pressures of climate change across the planet, while creating local resilience. It does so by a reimagining the product lifecycle to become a regenerative, closed-loop paradigm for products and services.

Distributed Technologies

Distributed technologies such as the blockchain can provide full transparency over supply chains, transactions and operations. A blockchain can serve as an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way. It is secured by the highest standards of cryptography and is stored on a "peer-to-peer" network, distributively across millions of computers.(Harvard Business Review)

Universal Basic Income

A universal basic income is an income unconditionally granted to all citizens or residents of a country or region. It is paid to individuals rather than households, irrespective of any income from other sources and without requiring the performance of any work or the willingness to accept a job if offered.
